Vinyasa Flow - Level 2/3

This class is taught by:

Adam Dobbs

As a child Adam suffered from severe asthma, as a teenager he suffered from clinical depression, insomnia, drug and alcohol addiction. He was sent to psychiatrists, psychologists, rehab facilities, alchohlics anonymous, narcotics anonymous and even emotions anonymous. He was put on anti-depressants, was told to follow the 12 steps and attend group therapy sessions. These approaches did not set him free. Even though he was still in this extremely unhealthy state he had been witnessing his behaviors and was searching for another more effective way out. He began a seated meditation practice at about 16 years old at a time when the practice was pretty much non-existent on Long Island and by the time he was 19 he put an end to his substance abuse through sheer will power alone. He began the physical practices of yoga which ultimately lifted the depression and cured his insomnia. In 1997 he went to live at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health for close to 6 months where he did asana, pranayama and meditation at least twice a day along with studying philosophy, chanting and performing seva (selfless service). He began teaching Yoga at the age of 20. Shortly after, he received his license in Massage Therapy and has continued his studies of massage/bodywork extensively throughout his travels in Thailand, India and China. He is the creator of Asian Fusion Bodywork® — a natural evolution of my experience.

Many years later he unfortunately slipped on ice, falling on a cement stairwell which resulted in significant damage to his body. In terrible chronic pain he eventually went to see multiple orthopedists seeking help. He resisted their strong suggestions to have multiple surgeries and decided instead to receive extensive bodywork in Thailand along with constructing an even more therapeutic yoga asana practice as an attempt to heal naturally. As a devoted Ashtanga Practitioner he has always found the system to be so elegant on so many levels, however it was not enough. He continued to practice Ashtanga but he started tacking on numerous other postures along the way which seemed both logical and instinctive. Ultimately this resulted in more stability around his damaged joints and he has been able to avoid invasive surgery. This sequence of asanas became his Signature Ashtanga/Vinyasa Blend.

With over 20 years of experience in Yogic Practices and Therapeutic Bodywork he hopes to the opportunity to assist you on your path to optimal health and happiness and to share with you what is transformative, healing and possible!

Vinyasa flow classes link breath and movement to create a continuous fluid flow of postures. Vinyasa means “breathe-synchronized movement” and the beauty of this class is that the sequence, or “flow”, can be different in each class, even with the same instructor.  This Level 2/3 class is powerful and dynamic. The yoga practice incorporates arm balances, inversions, and energetic sequences that challenge the body and stimulate the mind. You must have a knowledge of the basic postures. The teacher will provide detailed instruction on how to advance to deeper postures.
